The Best Drama Movies on Amazon Prime Right Now

There have been some really good drama movies added to Amazon Prime lately. That's a great thing because Amazon Prime has been seriously lacking in the drama movies department. I keep hearing about how everyone is saying that Amazon Prime is slowly becoming comparable to Netflix film quality but I wouldn't go that far. In my opinion, there's no real case for Amazon Prime movies vs Netflix right now. Amazon Prime is really good at tricking you into a great movie one night then 30 bad ones the following nights. It's not that Amazon Prime doesn't try hard to find good streaming movies to add to their Amazon Prime movies list, I just think they haven't quite hit their groove yet. Although, I do have plenty of good options here and luckily, the movies below are some of the best recent drama movies Amazon Video has to offer.

Pans Labyrinth

Jamilslist

Pans Labyrinth is the story of a pregnant mother traveling to the countryside with her daughter to live with her new husband. Her daughter has increasingly far-fetched tales of fairies and fauns. It takes place in 1940's Spain during the civil war. Pans Labyrinth is one of those new Amazon Prime movies that you just can't miss. Everything about the movie is so eventive and I can't think of a more original fantasy movie on Amazon Prime to date. What's most striking about Pans Labyrinth (and what makes it one of the best new movies on Amazon Prime) is the violence. You don't really expect it going into a movie that sometimes gets advertised as a child's fairytale. Let me be clear, this is no kids movie. Pans Labyrinth is a child's fantasy story, yet it has of lot of brutal, bloody, adult scenes. If you didn't already know, Guillermo del Toro is a master director and he will keep you engaged in this movie from start to finish. Even though this movie was made in 2007, it's still one of the best movies on Amazon Prime 2017.

Two Step

Jamilslist

Two Step is one of the new Amazon Prime movies no one has seen. I have no idea why this isn't on everyone's radar because it's a great film. Two Step is the story of a boy who loses his grandmother only to find a con man has been preying on her for years. I haven't really seen James Hebert in a lot of movies but he's great in Two Step. This is one of the new Amazon Prime movies that is very well done. Two Step is gritty from the beginning and every character seems to hold their own in every scene. This is one of the best dramas on Amazon Prime because it doesn't rely on any special effects or theatrics like big budget films do. Two Step is a down-home Texas thrill ride. Each scene is tenser than the next and I think you'll agree that this is one of the best new movies on Amazon Prime.

99 Homes

Jamilslist

99 Homes is about the real estate crash of the late 2000's and the effect it had on the people who lost their homes. 99 Homes is an Amazon Prime drama movie that really hits home with Americans. I think we all were affected by the real estate crash of 2008. I personally had some friends that lost their homes and it's a horrible thing to experience. 99 Homes had a way of showing you both sides of the argument in a way that I hadn't seen before. It's one of the best new movies on Amazon Prime because it allows you to dislike both the villain and the hero at certain points in the movie. I don't think I've ever seen that before to tell you the truth. Andrew Garfield and Michael Shannon go back and forth in their roles and they are both phenomenal actors. It's a good example of how some people lose all their morals in the face of money and how one man's tragedy is another man's triumph.

Into the Wild

Jamilslist

This is the story of Christopher McCandless's choice to live in the wilderness of Alaska and live off the land. What I found the most interesting about Into the Wild is that Christopher McCandless came from a privileged family and he still wanted to live a life without material things. There is a lot of emotion in Into the Wild and that's what makes it a great choice for an Amazon Prime drama tonight. I chose Into the Wild because the best dramas on amazon prime allow you to experience life from the perspective of another human being. I think all of us have a little bit in common with Christopher McCandless. He seems like a genuine guy who just preferred the little things in life. One thing I will say is that I wouldn't last a day in the Alaskan wilderness! Grizzly bears?? No Thanks!

Swiss Army Man

Jamilslist

Swiss Army Man is one of the new Amazon Prime movies that might just be the strangest drama movie you've ever seen. I don't exactly know how to describe the emotions in Swiss Army Man but there is a lot of it. Swiss Army Man is the story of a man trapped on an island. One day he runs into a very useful object on the beach. A lot of people might not say this should be in the drama category because of some of the gruesome scenes. I mean sure, is the premise ridiculous? Yes. But does that mean it's not a very entertaining Amazon Prime drama to watch? Nope. Swiss Army Man isn't going to make you cry, but it will make you think. In fact, it might make you think about things you've never thought of before. I for one, have never thought about a dead body being useful haha. Ok ok, don't let me scare you away, this is truly an Amazon Prime drama. The best aspect of Swiss Army Man is that it is truly unpredictable. There is absolutely no way you can guess what is going to happen throughout the movie. This type of movie has never been done before. Amazon Prime drama movies are rarely original so I think we should all appreciate Swiss Army Man.

These are some of the best drama movies on Amazon Prime right now. You can't go wrong with any of these choices and I think some of these are the best movies on Amazon Prime 2017 in the drama category. The best dramas on Amazon Prime don't have to be the ones that make you cry but they should make you feel something, good or bad, and that's why I recommended the movies above.
