The Best Horrors on Amazon Prime Right Now
Ok, so I will be the first to say it, but Amazon Prime does not have a lot of quality horrors on streaming video. Now that shouldn't be confused with the fact that Amazon Prime does have a ton of horror movies, it's just that the barrier to entry seems to be even lower than that of Netflix. I have noticed that Amazon horror movies are actually one of the toughest categories to find on Amazon streaming movies. I wish I had the reason why there are so many horror movies on Amazon Prime that don't make the cut, but for whatever reason, it makes the movies below a bunch of needles in a big haystack. These movies are the best of Amazon horror movies and if you're in the mood for some of the best scary movies on Amazon Prime, every single one of these is worth your time.
Green Room
Green Room is the story of a small traveling rock band doing a show for a group of neo-nazis. Once they witness something they shouldn't have, there are terrifying consequences. Green Room is one of the last movies made by Anton Yelchin. I was very sad to hear about his death and I didn't even know that he had made Green Room until months after. He plays a great role and Green Room is one of the best scary movies on Amazon Prime. What's worse is that "scary" doesn't accurately describe Green Room. I would say it's more like "terrifying" because it brings to light the horribly violent tendencies of white supremacists. I don't know for sure if such violent neo-nazi gangs exist in the world, but if they do, that's pretty horrifying that such evil exists in the world. Green Room has a few extremely graphic scenes that even shocked me! I thought I had seen all of the most horrible stuff in horror movies, but apparently, I was wrong. Amazon Prime horror movies don't get more gruesome than Green Room.
The Girl With All The Gifts
The Girl With All The Gifts is the story of a strange fungus that is slowly taking over the world and turning everyone into flesh-eating "Hungries". If you are looking for an original zombie film to watch, you won't be disappointed with The Girl With All The Gifts. I have seen quite a few of the Amazon horror movies about zombies and nothing really compares to the originality and entertainment of The Girl With All The Gifts. I'm always surprised when child actors are so good in movies. Another aspect that makes The Girl With All The Gifts one of the best Amazon horror movies is the perfectly put together design of a post-apocalyptic world. There is a lot of action that is supported with a great visual backdrop from one scene to the next. Also, I can't remember any movie I've seen with Glenn Close portraying the villain that wasn't a kids movie and she puts on a strong performance in The Girl With All The Gifts. I'm guessing this is the one and only movie she has put on her resume involving zombies. There is plenty of gore and scenes audiences might find "disturbing" but if you're familiar with most of the Amazon horror movies on my lists, you know that that's always a good thing. To get the best out of Amazon horror movies, make sure to try The Girl With All The Gifts.
Afflicted
Afflicted is one of the better found-footage movies made in a long time. I had never been much of a fan of found-footage movies until I stumbled upon Afflicted. Afflicted is one of the best horror movies on Amazon Prime right now because it is a very ambitious film that beautifully executes the found-footage genre with minimal effects and a great plot. It's the story of two friends traveling through Europe while one of them contracts a mysterious disease. Afflicted should be on your list of Amazon Prime horror movies because it's a chilly movie that is resuscitating the found-footage category. As the movie goes on, you might think you know what's going to happen next, but I'm betting you might be surprised at what's to come. For a small budget film, Afflicted won so many awards that it definitely deserves to be called one of the best Amazon horror movies out there.
What We Do In The Shadows
Flatmate vampires are living together and trying to stay up to date with the centuries of changes around them. Now I know some people might not consider What We Do In The Shadows to be on a list of horror movies on Amazon Prime. At first glance, people think that What We Do In The Shadows is just purely a comedy. But that couldn't be further from the truth. Horror movies on Amazon Prime don't always have to be terrifying. In fact, a lot of Amazon Prime horror movies just have mindless blood and gore without any real quality. What We Do In The Shadows has all the blood and gore you'd expect from a horror film while maintaining a hilarious, and original, plot. I would also have to say that this is probably the best mockumentary ever made. If you think you've seen all the best horror films about vampires already, think again. What We Do in the Shadows tops the list as the funniest of Amazon horror movies.
Like I mentioned, it seems like it's becoming more and more difficult to find Amazon horror movies worth watching. But that doesn't mean there aren't still some diamonds in the rough worth our time. In the hunt to find horror movies on Amazon Prime, I've noticed that the films above stand high above the rest of the Amazon Prime horror movies. One thing we can all look forward to is that just like Netflix Original movies, Amazon Prime has started to put a lot of effort into creating horror movies through Amazon Studios. It remains to be seen if Amazon Studios will be able to keep up with Netflix Original movies, but it's a good sign for those of us that love Amazon horror movies that Amazon Studios is starting to produce some quality horror films.
