The Best Netflix Movies to Watch on Christmas

Ah, it's that time of the year again. The time of the year when we all gather around the fire and share stories of the love we have for each and every family member in our lives. Songs will be sung and hands will be held. Well, maybe that's how your Christmas is, but mine is much more like watching all the screaming kids rip open presents while my siblings and I drink mimosas for about ten hours. But hey, to each their own.

Whatever your Christmas might be like, there's a good chance that it will turn into a Netflix Christmas! After all the presents, food, and alcohol, you need to take a load off and unwind for the night. That's where Christmas movies on Netflix come in. Now, I know that some people might be disappointed about this but I'm not going to pick only movies that are in the category of Netflix holidays. Instead, I'm going to pick movies that I think are the best movies to watch this Christmas whether or not they are actually Christmas related movies.

I know it's a little out there but I'm tired of sites that just show you the most popular movies during the holidays. I want to bring you the quality you deserve with an explanation of how I think each movie fits in with Christmas. So I hope no one is disappointed about that, but here are some of the best Christmas movies on Netflix I think you should watch this December.

Donald Cried

Jamilslist

Christmas is all about family. I personally have to travel quite a ways just to be with my family every year. There's nothing like going back to my hometown to be with the people I care about most during the holidays. Although, there is another aspect of Christmas that is not always so pleasant. I am not a big fan of running into people I knew from highschool. Don't get me wrong, I wish them well, I just don't want to reminisce about life nearly twenty years ago. Donald Cried is a great story about a man returning to this hometown to take care of his grandmother's estate.

I chose Donald Cried as one of the Christmas movies on Netflix to watch this year because it's a perfect example of something we all deal with during Christmas. Millions of people travel back to their original hometown for Christmas and millions of people probably run into old friends like Donald. If you know what I'm talking about and have had countless awkward conversations with people you used to know back in the day, then Donald Cried is the perfect Netflix Christmas movie for you. Donald Cried can be downright painful to watch with so many awkward situations that will have you cringing. See, Netflix Christmas movies don't have to just be about Christmas, they can be about the pointless conversations we all continue to have about Bobby Jo's school prank freshman year.

Cheap Thrills

Jamilslist

Cheap Thrills is a great movie to watch this Christmas if you've ever had any money problems in your life. Unfortunately, Christmas can turn out to be pretty expensive. If you don't have a lot of money, you can start to feel the drain on your wallet pretty quick during the holidays. Cheap Thrills is one of those films where you know it couldn't really happen but it's interesting all the same. It's the story of a man down on his luck when he bumps into an old buddy of his. They both end up meeting a mysterious couple that offers them money for increasingly dangerous dares. I wish Netflix Christmas movies were half as entertaining as Cheap Thrills. I suppose we can relate to the stress of having no money while trying to raise a family, although I can't imagine things getting this bad. Nevertheless, I chose Cheap Thrills to be on this Netflix Christmas list because it's an example of how money isn't everything and you shouldn't go losing your head over it.

Take Me

Jamilslist

Take Me makes this Netflix Christmas movie list because it's a great present to give someone! No, I'm not talking about recommending the movie, I'm talking about giving someone a "kidnap for hire" experience. Take Me is the story of a man who runs a kidnap for hire business and gets involved with the wrong client. The best Christmas presents are the ones that change your life for the better right? If I had a very bad addiction, I would hope that someone would give me a Christmas present to cure me of it! Take Me is great for Netflix holidays because it is in the spirit of giving. Take Me is chock full of psychological tension and unnerving comedy. I would take this over any sappy movie about Christmas on Netflix any day. Take Me is another one of Pat Healy's original works and it will have you laughing the whole time. So when you run into Uncle Pete this Christmas and he still hasn't quit smoking, make sure to look for a kidnap for hire business to cure him of his addiction.

The Great Alone

Jamilslist

Well, it's going to be a white Christmas in The Great Alone! I, myself, will be experiencing my first white Christmas this year and I have to say I'm pretty excited. I'm also very excited that I do not have to travel all the way up to Alaska to experience it either! The Great Alone is the story of Lance Mackey overcoming all obstacles to become a dog sled racing champion. I don't think I've ever seen a man love his dogs so much. Lance Mackey had a very interesting life and you get to witness it from the beginning. I chose The Great Alone to be on this list of Christmas movies on Netflix because it takes place in the snowiest and coldest places of our country. I've lived in California my whole life so I've been dreaming of a white Christmas for a long time. I realize a lot of my readers live in places that provide them with a white Christmas every year, so if snow is nothing new to you, The Great Alone is still a story about life, love, and ultimately survival. If you enjoy documentaries about sports, the wilderness, perseverance, and the great Alaskan frontier, then The Great Alone is a great choice for your Netflix Christmas.

So I know that it might seem strange to be listing movies that aren't about Christmas on a "Christmas movies on Netflix" list. The reason is if you Google "the best movies to watch on Netflix this Christmas" all you will get is a list of movies that are about Christmas on Netflix. Now does that mean they are actually worth watching? No. Netflix Christmas movies don't have to be about Christmas, all they have to be is good. After a long day of dealing with presents, and food, and family, it's nice to just sit down and relax with a quality movie. You've had enough Christmas music today, why not just enjoy some laughs with the family now.
